There is an increased interest in understanding the behavior of reinforced concrete slabs that are subjected to blast loading. Ten blast tests were conducted on reinforced concrete slabs of varying compressive strength and reinforcement layout at the Science and Technology Aerospace Department in Brazil. This presentation highlights the experimental test set-up, instrumentation, and qualitative results. The slabs were subjected to non-confined C4 explosive. Accelerometers, displacement and pressure gages were used to measure blast wave parameters and the global response of the slabs. In addition, a high-speed digital camera in conjunction with a rugged notebook was used to capture videos. A sample video will be shown.
Fausto Batista Mendonca is a Captain in the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and a PhD Candidate at the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA). He has more than ten years of experience in military target analysis. He has been at George Mason University as a visiting PhD student sponsored by FAB and the C4I & Cyber Center. Fausto has presented his research in the US to the International Pyrotechnics Society and will be speaking at the American Society of Civil Engineers Structures Congress in 2017.
