Information Fusion from Databases,
Sensors and Simulations --
A Research Initiative for a Common Approach

Friday, April, 13, 2007 Science & Technology II Bldg, Room 320 2:00pm

ABSTRACT

The University of Skövde has established an Information Fusion Research Program (www.infofusion.se), with funding from the Swedish Knowledge Foundation and a large group of companies. For this program, the research field is defined as: "Information fusion is the study of efficient methods for automatically or semi-automatically transforming information from different sources and different points in time into a representation that provides effective support for human or automated decision making."

The overall research questions can be summarized as:

  • Can we develop a common theory and a framework for various application areas?
  • Can we develop generic algorithms and methods useful in several different application areas?
  • Can we find a common set of requirements for information fusion systems to be fulfilled by a toolbox and an infrastructure?
  • Gunnar Mathiason (University of Skövde) and Per Gustavsson (SAAB, University of Skövde) will describe the research program and several of the application scenarios used for driving the research. Per is an affiliate faculty member of the C4I Center.
