C4I Center Selects AFCEA NOVA Fellow
The Center of Excellence in Command, Control, Communications,
Computing and Intelligence (C4I Center) exists to bring
Mason's strengths in Information Technology and Engineering
to the service of the US military and its allies. The Center
has teamed up with the Armed Forces Communications-Electronics
Association (AFCEA) Northern Virginia (NOVA) chapter in a program
intended to encourage people retiring from the military to
pursue graduate degrees. The first selectee in this program
in Major Dan Stimpson, US Marine Corps, who will join the
Center's staff upon his retirement in September 2008 and
will strengthen their background in current military operations
while he pursues a doctorate in Operations Research in the
Volgenau School. Professor Mark Pullen, who heads the C4I Center,
said "This is a great opportunity both for Dan Stimpson and
for the C4I Center; we are very grateful to AFCEA NOVA for
making it possible." The Center continues to seek qualified staff
with recent military experience for such Fellowships.

GMU Interoperation Technology Supports NATO Demonstration
The NATO Modeling and Simulation Group Technical Activity 48 (MSG-048)
conducted a breakthrough demonstration at the InterService/Industry
Training, Education and Simulation (I/ITSEC) 2007 conference. Using
the Joint Battle Management Language and its supporting Web services,
both pioneered under the leadership of the GMU C4I Center, the NATO
group demonstrated interoperation of three national Command and Control
systems with three national simulations in completely automated mode.
This was the first such interoperation ever and was achieved in only
six months by a five-nation team, using Internet access to the Joint
Battle Management prototype/reference services provided by the C4I
Center.
